FAQ

What type of photographer are you?

I’m a documentary photographer who specializes in capturing real, unscripted moments. I know most people feel awkward or unphotogenic in front of the camera, so I gently guide you via prompts, just enough to help you relax and be yourself- no stiff poses, no pressure to perform, just natural moments that actually feel like you.

Documentary style is selective, not exhaustive. Shooting every bridesmaid walking down the aisle is coverage, not storytelling.

Why Choose Documentary & Storytelling Photography?

Not every photography experience feels the same — and that’s the magic. Documentary photography captures life exactly as it unfolds, while storytelling photography uses intentional light and gentle guidance to evoke deeper emotion. Both styles are honest, beautiful, and true to your story.

I create galleries filled with laughter you can almost hear, tiny yawns, messy cuddles, sibling bonds, and golden-hour gatherings. No stiff poses. No forced smiles. Just real life, beautifully preserved for you to relive for years to come.

What to Expect from Your In-Home Family or Newborn Session?

1. Warm & Relaxed Vibe: We start with coffee, playtime, or casual chatting so I blend into your world.
2. Generous Time: 2–3 hour in-home sessions allow space for snacks, meltdowns, and authentic moments.
3. Real Life, Real Homes: Toys on the floor? Perfect. Wear what feels like you — superhero pajamas welcome.
4. Gentle Guidance: I follow your baby’s rhythm and your family’s natural flow for stress-free newborn, maternity, and lifestyle sessions.

These aren’t just photos — they’re future treasures of this fleeting season. From cozy bed cuddles and sleepy feeds to backyard adventures and family routines, I document the truth of your home and heart.

How do you help families feel comfortable and natural?

It's simple, really; I intentionally get to know you and your story. I send out questionnaires, and we choose a location meaningful to you. We take our time, and we build in a warm-up/ice-breaker in every session. We use prompts (not poses) to spark natural emotion rather than forced smiles.

Do you travel for shoots?

Absolutely!
I'm available for hire in the Appalachian foothills and beyond. Previous travels include Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Oregon. Contact me for an out-of-state quote.

When can I expect to receive my photos?

This will be specifically called out in your contract. A few factors can impact this schedule.

But on average, galleries are delivered between 3 and 5 weeks, with several sneak peeks delivered within 48 hours.

Are weddings more expensive than a regular session?

Yes. The short of it, yes, weddings are more expensive per hour than a "standard" session.

But you have to consider what is at risk with a wedding that isn't on a regular day—the emotional and time investment by the bride and groom, the one-and-done opportunity to capture.

As a photographer, I keep multiple camera bodies on me, so if a camera fails, I'm still covered and so is the wedding. But there is also the stress of the day, the timelines that are always too short to get everything done.

What does your wedding shot list entail?

I focus on telling the story of your day, not just covering it. That means I'm not chasing every single bridesmaid down the aisle. Instead, I'm watching for the moments that actually matter: the way your dad looks at you before he walks you down, the quiet emotion on your groom's face as he sees you for the first time. I'm there to capture the heart of your wedding, not just the checklist.
